Thirteen Housing Group is the largest housing association in the Northeast with 35,000 properties under their ownership and management, from North Tyneside to Yorkshire.
With a large portfolio of meters across their multi-site estate, the increasing complexity of energy bills and record price highs, Thirteen Housing identified an opportunity to optimise their approach to energy management.
They sought the expertise of leading energy management and sustainability consultancy, Inenco, who provide them with a broad range of procurement, sustainability and cost avoidance services.
With an estimated one in every five energy bills being inaccurate and an energy market seeing soaring prices, ensuring accurate billing and identifying saving opportunities is now more important than ever.
As part of the services provided to Thirteen Housing Group, Inenco’s Review and Recover (R&R) Team undertook a forensic audit into the utility provision over the previous 6 years. Following a robust process to breakdown and examine all the individual and complex components of energy billing – including reviewing bill accuracy and non-commodity charges – Inenco are able to help secure refunds from suppliers, negotiate ongoing savings and escalate issues quickly.
The team was able to draw upon expert knowledge and extensive industry experience to recommend and implement changes to the approach to utility bill processing. In doing this, Inenco secured over £850K in backdated refunds and the potential to reduce the ongoing costs by at least £130K per annum.
Identifying and recovering these costs for Thirteen Housing, will further assist them in being able to focus on delivering a quality housing provision to their customers during such a challenging time for so many.
