Helping Thirteen Group reduce carbon emissions by 26%

Thirteen Group is a housing association that provides more than 73,000 people in the North East, Yorkshire and Humber region with homes, support and opportunities to grow.

A journey to net zero

As well as providing quality homes, they are truly committed to understanding and reducing their impact on the environment. Which is why they are taking targeted action to reduce their carbon footprint and deliver on their commitments to be net zero on direct emissions by 2035, and on all emissions by 2050.

Over the last three years Thirteen have been working in partnership with energy management and sustainability experts Inenco to support them on this journey. This partnership has set the foundations for Thirteen to significantly enhance their energy management and gain better access to accurate energy data.

Setting the foundations

Inenco have played a key role in helping to introduce valuable new measures, such as the roll-out of automatic meter reading devices, that have allowed for regular meter reads and more accurate billing.

Having access to this data means Thirteen are better equipped to understand the complexities, trends and opportunities for greater energy management and carbon reduction across their estate.

The importance of accurate and meaningful data is clear. Having timely access and meticulously analysing this information in order to implement improvements has meant that Thirteen have now reduced their carbon emissions by an impressive 26% to date.

Taking it further

Taking it further and exploring other opportunities for improvements, Inenco have worked with Thirteen to complete a series of energy audits. These have focused on their buildings which have the highest energy usage, and that reflect 90% of the property types within their portfolio.

The results from the audits have helped to identify potential further savings of over 950,000kWh which equates to more than 200 tonnes of carbon dioxide.

““We’re working with Inenco to help us better manage our energy usage and reduce our carbon emissions, as we work towards becoming net zero. We’ve got access to knowledge, insight and analysis of our energy usage and we’re making real changes. Having better data is allowing us to focus our investment in net zero technology in the right places, where we know it will make a difference.””
